Flood Plain Management and Flood Damage Reduction Regulations
The City of Gatlinburg has adopted a comprehensive set of Flood Plain
Management Regulations. In addition to assistance with permit Requirements, the City
of Gatlinburg provides services for residents and business owners developing property
within the Flood Hazard Areas of the city. The city utilizes various reports,
studies, and maps in providing flood protection assistance. Beyond answering general
flood-related inquiries, the following information and/or assistance is available:
Determination of Flood Zones and Base Flood Elevations
(BFE) using the
Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM).
Determination of Finished Floor Elevations
(FFE) using TVA Flood
Reports.
On-site visits to properties in Flood Hazard Areas to evaluate and
advise on appropriate flood protection measures.
Explanation of the City's Flood Preparedness Plan, evacuation
procedures, warning systems, and historical data on community flooding.
A list of contractors and consultants that are knowledgeable or
experienced in retrofitting techniques and construction.
Advice on how to select a qualified contractor for development located
in the Flood Hazard Areas.
Review and critique of retrofitting plans, (with assistance from TVA).
Flood Elevation Certificates.
